Advanced Metering Topics
Amberflo provides a robust and enterprise-grade metering foundation designed to support complex, high-volume usage data at scale. From ingestion and deduplication to lifecycle management, the platform offers a comprehensive set of tools to ensure metering accuracy, consistency, and flexibility across hybrid IT environments. The following topics introduce key advanced capabilities that help you monitor and attribute on-prem usage in support of cost visibility, accountability, and chargebacks.
Meter Lifecycle
Meters transition through three states: draft, active, and deprecated. Draft meters allow iteration and testing. Once active, they’re immutable; changes require deprecation and re-creation. Historical data remains intact and accessible throughout.

Metering Design Principles
Amberflo is built on the core principles of accuracy, idempotency, and data deduplication. By default, it discards duplicate meter events unless any attribute (e.g. timestamp, dimension) differs. You can also customize the deduplication logic. For example, using a unique “block ID” or timestamp fields to align with your system’s specific data model.

Durability and Scalability
Designed for real-time, cloud-native operation, Amberflo partitions and replicates meter data automatically. This ensures high availability, low latency, and data integrity across ingest, aggregation, transformation, and consumption layers.

Meter Event Schema
The standard ingestion schema includes the fields customerid, meterapiname, metervalue, metertimeinmillis, uniqueid, and a flexible dimensions map. Supported input formats are JSON, NDJSON, and CSV. Extra CSV columns are auto-mapped to dimensions. You can also define a fully custom ingestion schema.

Meter Corrections
Meter events can be cancelled individually using a unique-id or in bulk via filter criteria (date ranges, dimensions). Cancellation operations are propagated through aggregations, invoices, and rewards to maintain consistency.
